Interesting...

I'm at a cafe listening to a man talk to his friend and a financial advisor about his company that is making all natural ice cream filled with protein and a new curl bar that doesn't cock you wrist -- interesting.

Am I full of crap or does protein enhanced ice cream sound like a bad idea? Something like that targets our indulgences. "Here, it's yummy ice cream AND it's good for you!" I feel that when you target human indulgences like that, it teaches them that those indulgences are OK as long as they're "healthy". We don't need to fuel such impulses, we need discipline. We need the discipline to say, "I'll pass on the ice cream. I'll eat the fish/meat/shake."

Mindset -- we need a new mindset. Not gimmicky products that make the bad food "good" for you.

I'm in 100% agreement with you, but I have little hope that this sad parade of useless and misleading "health food" will ever slow down. Mainly because it is only by cooking up new schemes that anyone makes money in the industry.

All we can do is try to show with our own lifestyles that all those factory made foodstuffs are a waste of time and money.

Every supermarket already has a health food section... the vegetable aisle!

The gyms you go to are crowded with guys trying to look like men, as if being a man means looking the way a sculptor or an art director says. - Tyler Durden, Fight Club (The book. He says something simliar in the movie)

You have picked a great hero david because his philosophy fits in with what you were saying last post. And I totally agree with what you are saying here too. So much stuff that is "healthy" is all about enabling people to still be uber-consumers but feel good about it.

Thanks, guys.

Patrick taught me in the beginning to stay away from things like protein bars as they are more like candy bars than anything remotely healthy.

We try to make things so easy these days, but we have to realize that we can only appreciate our feats when we work hard for them.
